Wild Yoga every Saturday at 10am

We had our first Wild Yoga class this Saturday – it was a bit of a last minute arrangement as the weather kept changing from sunny to rainy to sunny… and it decided to be a sunny Saturday at the end!

From now on, weather dependant, our Saturday session will be held at the park @10 am – it will be a maximum of 5 students and we will all respect the 2m distance – this has been tried and tested now!

These classes are available to book on the system from today and a new class pack has also been added to use with Wild Yoga classes only.

The rest of the classes will stay on line for now until further notice.

Safety-distanced Wild Yoga is back!

Dear yogis and yoginis,

I am over the moon to announce that I will be holding our first Wild Yoga session of the summer on Saturday June 13th @Whittington Park, 10am. I am hoping to continue throughout the summer as we have done for the last two years!

These are some simple rules to follow in order for these sessions to be safe and successful:

  • Bring your own mat / props and hand sanitiser to the park with you
  • Respect the safety distance of 2m from other students and myself
  • All adjustments and instructions will be verbal
  • If you are feeling unwell with cold / flu- like symptoms, please do not attend this class and choose from the many other online classes here
  • These sessions are capped at 5 students so book early here to avoid disapointment!
  • And last, but not least: enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while you practice yoga – bliss!

And for a post-yoga beverage / snack… rumour has it that our beloved Whittington Park Cafe is now open!

New moon in Gemini, artist unknown

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Gemini is the star of this week, headlining both the Sun – from this Wednesday – and the Moon – on Friday. Gemini, ruled by Mercury, is all in the mind and its energy is light, outgoing and when out of balance can be a little ADD, as it loves variety and multitasking.

New moons are usually about new beginnings. However, this Friday’s new moon in Gemini, is asking you to re-cycle, re-evaluate and re-fresh more than starting something brand new. Why? Because it comes with a Mercury – Venus conjunction and a Sun – Saturn trine; and both planets (Venus, ruling my wants and desires and Saturn, ruler of rules and order) are retrograding.
Is there anything in your life which feels a little outdated and will do with a makeover? Well, this is a great time to do this!

This week’s yoga and astral insights 110520

Dear yogis and yoginis,

This full moon in Scorpio has passed like a massive wave, so perhaps you like myself are feeling a little more exhausted and depleted than normal. Make sure you take some time to rest and nourish yourself until your energy levels are balanced again.

Sometimes, and especially now during lockdown, we have to deal with others’ erratic behaviour’s head on, especially our close ones or people we share our space with. Perhaps this full moon has brought someone’s dark side up to the surface and you’ve had to handle the tsunami not knowing where it came from.
How can we create some distance when there is no physical distance?

Boundaries are important and the closer we are to people the firmer in place they should be. I find staying close to my centre helps in this situations when, aside from having to manage my own stress I am being thrown some more. Stepping out of the situation without reacting is no easy feat, but most effective. Breathe it through. A few deep breaths and then our dear Ujjayi breath, calming our senses, keeping us focused, soothing the heart.

A daily meditation practice is an invaluable tool to be able to stay calm in the middle of the tsunami. Once this regular practice settles within you it’s like having a superpower. You are able to control your own mind and not be affected by others behaviours. This is definitely something worth investing in!

Asana practice will also help channel your fire into a very beneficial outcome, your physical wellbeing (which, by default, will effect your emotional wellbeing). A short sun salutation, maybe staying in down dog a little longer, burning it on Utkatasana (chair pose)… Think of the great benefits of a fire under control. And now think of the destruction power held by a fire out of control. Fire is fire. We just need to learn how to handle it.

Mercury moves into Gemini today, Monday, marking the beginning of three weeks of premium time for negotiations, anything to do with communications, networking, the internet and electronic devices – I am hoping this means our Zoom classes will get a boost!

GEMINI unite PISCES elude TAURUS strengthen

Mars enters Piscis on Wednesday, meaning fire enters water. Mars is not very happy on this sign as its energy dissolves its willpower, dampening its fire, leaving you confused and not knowing which path to take. If we look at this from a little bit of a higher plane this alignment can be turned to a good place and be used to channel our inner Spiritual (Pisces) warrior (Mars).

Two planets go retrograde this week: Venus on Wednesday and Jupiter on Thursday. Venus rules love, creative projects and finances and will be going retrograde till June 25th – not a good period for weddings. Jupiter will be retrograde for the next 4 months, so this is a good time to do a little soul searching and make sure your goals are still in tune with your heart’s desires.

A Sun – Pluto trine on Friday may bring out a few handy secrets and we will end the week with a lucky charm on Sunday brought by a Jupiter-Sun trine.

Full moon in Scorpio meditation and ritual

As the full moon reaches its peak tomorrow 10:45, I am writing this so you have enough time to prepare for your own full moon ritual. It will be very simple, with objects you have in your home. Rituals work best when you make them your own, so I will give you some ideas and guidelines and then all it takes is your creativity and commitment to follow through so your intention materialises.

Intention.
This is the most important thing in rituals. Make sure your intention is clear. Scorpio is the deepest, most emotional sign (feminine, fixed, water) and this full moon wants to illuminate those conditionings, fears, patterns which are buried deep into the psyche so they can be transformed. So I encourage you to sit in meditation before your ritual, to connect with the full moon. My own personal recommendation time-wise is to sit in meditation for a half hour.

Gather together:

– A candle, any candle or tea light, white is best – this represents fire. Preferably a match to light it

– Bring on your crystals, if you have any. Otherwise anything which represents earth for you can be used instead: a stone, sand, soil, branches

– Incense, sage, palo santo… to cleanse – these represent air

– And finally water in any form: a simple bowl of water will do

– On top of these bring an image / figure / your own drawing of a deity (any deity) you want present in your ritual. I chose Ganesh, destroyer of obstacles and he is holding up Fortuna, the Roman goddess representing luck and the ups and downs of life. The possibilities are endless here, so choose someone or something you truly connect with

– Any trinkets you want to bring in which will bring meaning and power to the ritual. I have Ganesh holding a red and blue feather, for example, this feather represents the freedom and lightness of flight; its colours water and fire; and she is being grounded by Ganesh and her round belly. So the four elements are also represented here

– Last you will need a piece of paper and a pencil or pen and a fire resistant bowl or plate

Find a space where you can be relaxed and won’t be interrupted. Outdoors is best, or anywhere where you can get a glimpse of the full moon. If you need to sit on a cushion or chair to be comfortable in meditation, make sure you bring it into the space.
Light the candle with the match stick and place it in the middle of this space.

Cast a circle of protection around the space you will be working in. There is many ways to do this. A very effective way is to light your incense / palo santo / smudge stick in the candle and walk around the space holding it, cleansing the space and casting a veil of protection around it. Use your own words here as you walk around the circle. You can just say: ‘I am safe inside this circle, I am protected’.

Now sit in front of the candle and gaze at it. Take the piece of paper and start burning its edges on the candle. Be careful as you do this and keep your mind focused. Make sure the whole edge of the paper is burned, this will seal its contents.

Next start preparing you altar for the ritual. Place the rest of the elements around the candle and the paper and pencil / pen close to you. Have a drink of water from the bowl so you start connecting with this element and sit comfortably. If you have a timer you can set to bring you out of the meditation, set it now – I recommend ‘Insight timer’ which is a free app with a very simple yet effective timer. Otherwise you may choose to bring yourself back whenever it feels like the right time. Ground your sit bones as you start your meditation and connect with the moon, visualise her beautiful pale white halo bathing you and ask her for insights: ‘what needs to be transformed?’ ‘what has reached its sell-by-date and needs to go?’ Be open and receptive, allow these insights to come to you.

Once your meditation is finished, download those insights into the fire sealed paper. Try not to think about it and just pour them onto the paper. This paper is sealed with the element of fire, standing for transformation, destruction and creation, purification. Once you finish, hold the paper in front of you, and visualise whatever your wrote in your paper, literally leaving your body and being absorbed by your paper. Now it is all sealed in the paper. Fold or loosely scrunch the paper and burn a corner with the candle flame. Be safe as you do so and quickly place it into the fire resistant bowl. Watch it burn and be conscious of how you feel as you do so. Do you feel lighter? More energised? More positive? If you write a journal, write these feelings down. What is your next step? How will this transformation manifest?
Write down what comes to you from the heart, to earth it. Make a commitment. Every day do something small which brings you closer to that change. The full moon will be back and then you can peel yet another layer, but, for now, well done and keep up the good work of being present and attuned to the moon cycles!

Full moon in Scorpio – artist unknown

Today we have a very favourable aspect for anything to do with communications, deals, purchases and networking as the Sun merges with Mercury. So send that message, sign that contract and make that purchase today as the sky promises a smooth going!

The biggest day of the week is Thursday as we have a full moon in Scorpio. Scorpio is a deep, deep, deeeeeeeep sign and it deals with deep (did I say this?) transformation as it is the most intense of signs (feminine, fixed, water). Scorpio will love you deeply forever and become obsessed when out of balance. This is why Scorpio is linked with addictions, jealousy, relentlessness… everything goes deep and is felt to the extreme. So, even though full moons are felt as high energy, offering revelations and clarity; this full moon may feel more introverted, asking us to dive deep into the abyss of our psyche to dig for the roots of our most hidden fears… Sounds fun? I guess it depends on how daring you feel this week. Lets prepare for this, do a little ground work first so we are connected to our cores before we do such intense work. This week’s yoga and astral insights – 20.04.20

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Another week of sunshine when we are having to stay indoors, the irony of things… Or perhaps just another challenge. This week we have a Sun-Saturn square on Tuesday which may be a little patience-testing as Saturn is the planet of limitations and boundaries. My best advice? Don’t fight it, just let go and allow for those possible delays, let go of all resistance and chill out. Especially as this square is followed by a new moon in Taurus on Wednesday – mega-chill times! Taurus is a fixed, Earth, feminine sign, ruled by Venus, planet of beauty and sensuality. So think of letting go, enjoying the darkness of the black moon tonight and use this time to pamper yourself, do something creative – painting, dancing, writing… whatever calls you. Oh and, before I forget, keep connecting with nature. This time of the year everything is blossoming – Venus – so go get some flowers (potted if possible!) and bring nature into your home. Smell the flowers everyday and get that magical beautifully scented prana into your system… Bliss!

This week’s yoga and astral insights – Happy Ishtar Monday!

Dear yogis and yoginis,

The weather in the UK is being yet again amazing for Easter weekend. Last year, I was in Cornwall with Tiger, we took a train all the way there to go to the woods and the sea. We were free to do so and lucky that it was hot and sunny. This year we have spent this weekend in our garden. We did not go out to the woods or the park. And we consider ourselves lucky to have a little garden we can spend some time at. Things are very different now.

Last year, as I was following and studying astrological predictions for the ominous year 2020, I couldn’t have imagined what this years ‘huge shifts and tranformations’ were going to materialise as, or even, how they would occur in the first place. Seeing what we are going through now everything makes a lot of sense. The collective is now going through a huge karmic process. Some tough lessons we need to learn and, until we do, this is not going to get any better. Now we are forced to stay home, with ourselves, move into the yin energy and accept that this is all a result of our actions (karma). Move out of the victim mentality. Reflect. Work together as a whole, protect the vulnerable and stay strong. As a collective of humans. Tom Lescher (aka Kaypacha) talks about this in last week’s Pele report (always making it fun and a little crazy!)

This week starts with a couple of conflicting astrological alignments. We have a Sun-Pluto square tomorrow Tuesday and then a Sun-Jupiter square on Wednesday. The Sun is conjuct Eris, goddess of discord and strife. Eris is the sister of Ares (god of war), the feminine which gives birth and also takes life away. The goddess of karma. These two squares can bring in massive power struggles so it is good to start the week well balanced and at peace to manage these energies. We will we doing some great pranayama and grounding balancing poses in class this week. We want to build a steadfast mind/ body while staying soft! Things relax a bit more towards the end of the week as the Sun moves into Taurus (an earthy, materialistic and creative sign) on Sunday, so we can channel our energies into creative projects and if it’s in the garden even better!

This week’s yoga and astral insights 6.04.20 – New Lunchtime Yoga sessions!

Dear yogis and yoginis,

As time seems to blur during lockdown, discipline and a set routine become paramount in order to stay sane. So I have prepared some new classes for you to stay focused and mobile. Keep reading…

We have a Libra full moon on Tuesday! This moon is called the ‘pink moon’, not because of her actual colour but because of this is the time of the year where nature blossoms. Full moons are times where issues come to the light, times of endings and conclussions and the Libra full moon affects mainly personal and business relationships. This moon comes with a challenging alignment though, a Mars – Uranus square. Mars is the warrior, lord of war and Uranus rules sudden changes, breaking rules and independance – my personal recommendation will be to stay low during this time, away from conflict and rush decisions. The fiery energy of Mars mixed with the sudden breaking energy of Uranus can bring quite strong experiences which we may not want to live through while we are on lockdown!

There are some good news though. Last Saturday we had a Jupiter – Pluto conjunction, one of the major alignments this year as it signals large scale achievements and only happens once every 13 years. Spend this time focusing on your goals as you have Jupiter’s expansive energy and Pluto’s intensity on your side to make something really big happen.

I have added a couple of short Lunchtime Yoga sessions to the booking system. These are specifically designed for those of you who are working from home in a computer and want to invest a half hour of your lunchbreak to work on tight shourders, neck, arms, get some momement in their backs and so on. These sessions are just £5 and included in the Unlimited Live Streamed Yoga subscription and will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-1.30pm.

This week’s yoga – Live streamed classes are ON from Monday!

Dear yogis and yoginis,

After a week of testing technology and brainstorming ways to keep teaching during lockdown, I am glad to say we have a new ‘normal’ coming from this week!

These are the changes I have implemented so I can keep bringing you yoga during this period of lockdown:

  • Class prices have temporarily changed to £10 for a drop in class or £50 unlimited classes for a month. The unlimited yoga subscription includes attendance to any new weekly classes, including the ‘Restorative and Yoga Nidra’ workshop. I will be posting tips, freebies and more in my blog and facebook pages, so feel free to follow these!
  • I understand that some of you may be struggling financially at the moment and if so, please do get in touch and I will be happy to make an arrangement with you. We all need yoga at this time to stay calm, healthy and focused! So please don’t be shy to ask as I would ideally like to keep everyone in the loop 🙂
  • Those of you with credits please get in touch with me and I will go through the options I can offer you
  • I am introducing a less than 1/2 price offer of one-to-one online yoga sessions during this period (normally £70 p/h, now £30 p/h). You can book a slot in the booking system or if you don’t find slot which suits you, get in touch with me.

How to set up for the live streamed yoga classes:

  1. Download Zoom here
    For best results we recommend to use a laptop or tablet and to use a strong, stable internet connection
  2. Position the laptop or tablet so we can see you both sitting and standing, this way we will be able to interact in the same way we would in a face to face class
  3. You will receive the Zoom meeting ID and password at least 1 hour before the start of the class.
  4. Please connect at least 10 minutes early so we can begin on time. We’re looking forward to seeing you!

This week's yoga – Transition to LIVE STREAMED classes from The Glass House

Dear yogis and yoginis,

I hope you are all keeping well and healthy in these changing times.
I have had a little time to adjust and think about this all and have come to the conclusion that, as much as the ‘dis-ease’ which is this current virus has disrupted our lives, made some of us ill and ended many lives; this is a a big call for us to finally press the PAUSE button. And keep it pressed for a while. Sadly, not all of us can do this and my heart goes to NHS staff and other key workers who are out there in the front line saving lives and keeping food supplies going, amongst others. This is a time to think collectively, for everyone’s wellbeing – please stay at home and only go out to buy necessities or get some sun / exercise / fresh air (which will get even fresher as pollution levels are dropping!). This way, not only you and your close ones will be safe, but you won’t be helping the virus spread to those who are vulnerable.

I will be doing two live streamed classes on zoom this week – both Open Level:

  • Wednesday 25th March @ 6.30pm
  • Saturday 28th March @ 11am

There is a recommended donation of £10 per class – if you are still employed and feel can offer a higher contribution this would be great and if you are struggling and being affected financially consider these classes a gift from me. E-mail me here to get an invite for either of these classes.

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Unfortunately it seems like the Covid 19 is fastly spreading in London and after a lot of considering, I have decided to stop doing face to face classes and join the #stayathome movement. I believe we should learn from experience, seeing what is happening in other countries, including my natal Spain – I have to follow their advice and learn from their mistakes… and start live-streaming classes, so we can all continue with our lives as ‘normally’ as possible.

Classes are canceled for now and I will send an email on Monday with new info.

This week’s yoga and astral insights

Dear yogis and yoginis,

The sun is entering Aries this week, precisely Thursday March 19th. This day is also the spring equinox, which is one of the two days a year when light and darkness are in balance. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, the Ram, bringing a courageous, adventurous energy which is eager to lead and embark in new beginnings.

There are quite a few shifts of energy this week, which may feel as if we were being pulled in two opposing directions:

  • Mercury moves back from forward thinking Aquarius to emotional Pisces, which may make communications a bit muddy
  • On Saturday March 21st Saturn moves from traditional, old-school Capricorn to forward thinking, futurist Aquarius, marking the first Saturn return for Millenials born between 1990-1992
  • Mars, also in Capricorn, makes two conjunctions this week with very different energies: a very positive, expanding, Mars-Jupiter conjunction on Friday (Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system), and later on Sunday, a difficult Mars-Pluto meeting bringing friction and power struggles. Maybe it is a good idea to stay at home on Sunday!

This week’s yoga and astral insights 24.02.20

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Today marks the exact midpoint of this Mercury retrograde in Pisces – run away and hide! Mercury retrograde has acquired pretty bad rep – failed communications, failed travel, failed connections… But what Mercury retrograde is really offering us is another chance – an opportunity to stop and recalibrate. If we take it for what it is and work with this energy instead of trying to push through with our own (generally busy) agenda, we can find true hidden treasures! Pay attention to your dreams. Meditate. Go out for a walk in nature. Rest a little more…

As new structures are trying to come into place, it is normal to feel a bit (or a lot!) confused during this Mercury retrograde in Pisces (dreams, emotions, water, intuition) – this is our chance to (re)find our truest ideas, perhaps some of which came to us long ago and had to be parked aside due to limiting conditionings we had back then. Well, now is the time to reflect on those, dust them out and see if they are still true to who we are.

There are a couple of sextiles coming close to the weekend. The first one is a Mercury retrograde in Pisces sextile to Mars in Capricorn. Mars in Capricorn has a very sensual energy, and calls for us to be true to ourselves through our intuition (Mercury retrograde in Pisces). This could mean synchronicities and people from the past coming back in to our lives, be it past lovers or ex-partners who could support said ideas. If this is the case then it could be the right time now to find the new structures to ground those dreams and ideas.

The second sextile happens on Friday, Mercury retrograde in Pisces sextile Venus in Taurus. This is a great time to end addictions and patterns which no longer serve us, such as toxic relationships.

As Mercury retrogrades in Pisces there is a double edge of confusion as we will have to tune in and discern whether that synchronicity or person from the past is here to stay or whether it is a toxic pattern we need to put an end to… So have fun working this one out!

This week’s yoga and astral insights 17.02.19

Dear yogis and yoginis,

February is quite literally turning to be an ‘air and water’ (Aquarius and Pisces) month, two different storms in two weeks! – though I do love the peace and quiet after the storm… aaaah bliss ✨

This week ends with a new moon in Pisces, on Sunday. Tomorrow Tuesday the Sun also enters Pisces, enhancing this sign’s dual energy – sun / moon, yin / yang, masculine / feminine. Mars in Capricorn will be trining Uranus this Friday which could bring a sudden strong surge of physical energy which may be hard to control. It is important to focus on channeling this energy and pour it into creative endeavours and goal settings for the new lunar month, though it may feel like a challenge!

This is where Thursday’s Black Moon Restorative and Yoga Nidra workshop comes in to help! These monthly workshops fall on the days just before the new moon, a period called ‘blackmooning’ – as we can see no moon in the sky. These days are great for resting, resetting the nervous system, tuning inwards and allowing your heart to talk to you – while being ready to listen and receive. This is the yin part of the lunar cycle, as we prepare ourselves for when the energy starts to increase during the following two weeks leading up to the full moon. Utkata Konasana, Goddess stance or horse stance – This asana tones and strengthens the core muscles, strengthens the quadriceps and inner thigh muscles, heats the body and increases circulation

Happy Imbolc yogis and yoginis!

Imbolc celebrates the re-emergence of the life force, the re-awakening of the Earth as the Sun’s energy starts to increase. With Imbolc, meaning ‘in the belly’, starts the period of incubation after conception. It is the moment when the kundalini serpent raises up through the spine in sacred and sexual union in which the self merges with the infinite.

There is a lot of second chakra, Svadhisthana, energy in this period – our pelvis and sexual organs, our intuition flowing with the water element, the return of emotional Pisces towards the end of the month. It is important to check now for any old debris which may still be lingering around in the form of patterns or conditionings which we no longer need and are stopping us from stepping ahead into the new. By clearing our space we welcome the new!
This is a fantastic time to start bringing your plans to life, start ‘cooking’ and rooting stuff.

This week’s yoga will be flowing like the water element, reinforcing Svadhisthana through asana and pranayama. Preparing the grounds for what is coming to flourish in a healthy and fertile soil. Focusing on what is really important to us through meditation.

This week’s yoga and astral insights

Dear yogis and yoginis,

It has certainly been an interesting week with so much planetary action going on, including the new moon in Aquarius last Friday. This week brings a beautiful waxing crescent moon, a great time to launch new projects and try new things! This coincides with the celebrations of the Chinese New Year of the Metal Rat – which, in my mind looks something like this… 😅

This week Venus joins Neptune in Pisces (today!) which makes the heart swell – perhaps opening up a new romantic love or increasing compassion towards that special one. Venus in Neptune may tend to over-romanticise things, as Neptune is the planet of magic and dreams. Tomorrow Tuesday may be a low energy day as Mars squares Neptune. Mars is the planet of action, yang planet! and a square in Neptune can also mean low immune function, so it’s recommended to get enough rest and avoid alcohol, stress and anything which may compromise the immune system.

A square between the Aquarius sun and Taurus moon at the weekend may bring a brief tug between freedom (Aquarius) and security (Taurus).

If you are reading this I have some good news for you: it looks like you have survived Blue Monday (yesterday)! Well done 😉.
The concept of Blue Monday was ‘created’ by a holiday company by calculating, using an equation, which would be the lowest, most depressing day of the year. It is usually the 3rd Monday in January and, guess what, it sits very close to the black moon (which is a time of de-pression). So the darkest point in the darkest month of the year, right after the sparks of the holidays – no surprise we are feeling blue!

This week’s yoga will focus in an uplifting and nourishing practice – tuning inwards in preparation to the new moon on Friday and setting intentions for the year ahead in the Restorative workshop!

This is because we are not able to see the moon, or we see a black moon. The energy of this night is perfect for ‘being in the dark’ and turning inwards, setting intentions for the new moon and doing yin, slow, nurturing practices.

All classes canceled this week

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Well I started the year being a sick cat – happy 2020 y’all!

Sadly that means there’ll be no classes running this week as I am not well enough to teach. Classes will resume on Monday January 13th – one day after one of the biggest astrological alignments in 2020, a Saturn – Pluto conjunction… This is big, not only because it only happens about once every 34 years, but also because of the nature of these two planets: Saturn is the planet of law and order and Pluto is the planet of death and transformation, pulling out from its deep roots whatever has to go in order to help you grow. Growing pains? Pluto’s fault! So with these two planets conjunct just after the full moon (plus solar eclipse! on the 10th) hold on tight and pay attention to what is going on – somethings may just blow up out of seemingly nowhere. Be ready for the possible challenges coming your way. This is why I am taking the week off. Really. 🤞

I hope you’re sailing smoothly through the busy-ness of this time of the year… taking time to rest and sleep enough, eat good warming foods and drinking enough (non-alcoholic 😉) liquids to stay hydrated.

Xmas timetable, Xmas offers, new classes, FREE restorative yoga taster and MORE!!!

Dear yogis and yoginis,
First I want to send out some full moon blessings for tonight’s full moon in Gemini. There’s a lot of numerical synchronicity with this full moon as it falls on the 12th day of the 12th month at 12:12h. In numerology we look at 1 + 2 = 3 —-> the energy of one individual in union with another gives birth to something new, creation. Creation can only happen where there has been separation (1+1) and duality exists (2) so union is possible in this realm and from that union there is a birth of something new. Repetition is usually a good omen of synchronicity and higher vibration.

I am only hoping that all the separation and extremism we are going through as a collective can take a new turn with the full moon falling on election’s day tomorrow and that indeed the numbers are right and it can be the birth of something new! We will be holding a meditation for positive change at the end of class tonight 8-8.15pm right under the moon at The Glass House. If you are not coming to class don’t worry, you can join us from wherever you are. The more the merrier!

New classes, new space – all change, all change!

Dear yogis and yoginis,

We have now settled at The Glass House, so I thought I will show you some pictures of yogini Tiger after her practice… she is definitely feeling the zen vibes and loving it!

It has been an intense move and process – still ongoing as we adjust to the new space. We discover new things with every class! The last discovery was the many uses of a reflective ceiling when laying down and doing our warm ups, it’s great!

This week we are introducing new classes:

Early morning Pranayama and Meditation:
Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 8am

A half hour session, just before rush hour, to start the day grounded and clear minded.

Pranayama  is the fourth limb of yoga. It’s a Sanskrit term meaning  ‘extension of the life force’. The word is composed of two Sanskrit words, Prāna meaning life force and āyāma, meaning to extend, draw out, restrain, or control. Prāna (life force) is carried by our breath, therefore by ‘controlling’ our breath we are able to adjust our life force. Different Pranayama techniques are used for different effects, some calming, some energising, some balancing. The benefits of Pranayama are too many to list here!

Dhyana (Meditation) is the 7th limb of yoga. In meditation we aim to retreat from our thoughts, calming our ‘monkey mind’. By shifting our attention away from our thoughts we are able to calm our nervous system and allow our intuition to flourish. Nurturing this practice will not only dramatically increase your wellbeing, but also open the door to your ‘inner knowing’ and help develop a strong feeling of contentment and acceptance of whatever life brings.

Our popular Complete Beginners Yoga course starts on Saturday November 2nd and runs for 5 weeks.

This course will be covering the basics in yoga in a friendly, down to earth environment. By the time you complete this course you should feel confident to move onto the Level 1 or Open Level classes with a clear understanding of the basic foundations in Yoga.
It is sometimes great to revisit these foundations even if you have been practising for a while, so if you feel like doing so you are welcome to join us!

We are moving to The Glass House!

It is happening, we are moving!

From next week all classes will be held at The Glass House, 664A Holloway Road N19 3NU.
The new studio is more intimate and houses up to 6 mats, offering more of a one-to-one approach to learning. For those riding to class, there is space for a few bikes inside the building so you can keep them dry and safe during class.

We have a new booking system in place now. To see the new timetable and book classes please go here. You can book per class or purchase class packs and book in advance as many classes as you like! All classes must be booked as we cannot guarantee that there’ll be space for last minute drop-ins.

Those of you with class packs would have received an e-mail from Instabook in the last few days. Please make sure you activate your account as soon as possible as your credits have been added to the system so you are ready to book!

BREAKING NEWS: We are moving!

Welcome to The Glass House, a new home studio opening in Upper Holloway. This will be Stay Gold yoga’s home from October onwards. A new timetable with additional classes will be revealed in the next few days – our Wednesday evening and Saturday morning classes will remain the same.

The benefits of moving

  • The Glass House is a green quiet haven in the midst of the busy Holloway Road. Situated just behind the main road, it looks out to an interior garden, surrounded by nature and calm
  • The studio houses a max of 6 students, so will be offering smaller classes tailored to specific abilities and levels
  • The Glass House aims to offer a unique and luxurious experience. It’s a very private venue, even though walls and ceiling are glass (the ceiling is reflective so no one can see through it from the outside)
  • Just think of looking at the stars during your evening class just before drifting off to Savasana… bliss!

Transition period, pricing and new booking system

The transition period will be the month of October. During this time a few new classes will take shape as we see the demand of our regular students and welcome new students to the space.

As capacity is limited, a booking system will be implemented from the beginning of October. Prices will vary slightly from October 1st:

  • Drop in – £15, increasing just £1 from current price
  • Block of 6 classes – £76
  • Block of 10 classes – £110
  • Concessions – £10 – there’ll be specific community classes available for those with concessions (students, unemployed, low waged and retired)

SPECIAL OFFER: Blocks of 10 and 6 classes can be bought at current prices until the end of September and will be valid until their end by date (3 months for 10 classes and 2 months for 6 classes). Get yours in class or contact me here.

Astral insights

This week, like all weeks in September is very busy with aspects.

We are still feeling the influence of the full moon in Pisces last week. Materialising illusions, dealing with delusion and embodying our dreams. This week starts with Mercury (planet of communication) opposing Chiron (planet of vulnerability) in Libra (relationships). This could mean we could start the week with some communication / conversation to do with a relationship (business, partnership, romantic, family …) which may leave us in a place of vulnerability. As Chiron is in Aries (first sign of the zodiac, dealing with our primal, individual needs) we may react to feeling vulnerable by being defensive. But, with Chiron retrograding we have an opportunity to grow by realising that this is an old defence mechanism and trying a different approach.

On Wednesday, Saturn starts going direct, after retrograding since the end of April. It’s also in its sign, Capricorn, until March 2020 and it wants us to be adults and take responsibility. Saturn is the gatekeeper of our 3D reality. It rules time and space, the material world and the responsibilities it carries. It also rules karma – which doesn’t need to be negative, karma is the consequence to an action. The next few weeks Saturn will be putting things in their place, putting order and making sure debts are paid: not just material but also emotional.
So, our big lessons in adulting are about to start!

This week’s yoga and astral insights 09.10.2019

Dear yogis and yoginis,

As the summer keeps fading away and we find ourselves walking towards the winter it is hard not to look back to warmer, sunnier days. Although Autumn starts to shine its beautiful colours, this is the season of change, and change always carries some sort of discomfort.
As our energy starts to decrease due to less natural light and our immune system trying to keep up with the seasonal changes, our responsibilities increase as we go back to our routines, back to work, school or back to the place which we associate with our everyday life.

The ancient science of Ayurveda, links the season of Autumn to the Vata dosha. Vata is the movement dosha, whenever there is change there is a Vata imbalance. Vata is governed by three qualities: cold, dry and light. In order to balance an excess Vata, we need to change our routine / diet to help us feel warmer, more moist and a little heavier as we prepare for the cold. Simple. Where do we start? Read below.

  • Get more sleep.
    Now that the days are getting shorter it is a good time to start going to bed a little earlier. Do this in stages, perhaps 15 mins earlier each day until you find a time that suits you. This way you’ll be more likely to stick to it.
    Wake up earlier also, if possible, just before sunrise to slowly get ready for your day.
  • Slow down and declutter
    Take more time to do things and spend some time reviewing goals and decluttering your space. Think simple, clean and warm. Keep your pace steady though, find a pace which suits you and avoid overexerting yourself.
  • Simple diet changes
    Think adding warmness, moisture and a little heaviness into your diet and avoiding / reducing foods which dry you out and overstimulate you, such as popcorn and coffee. Increase your intake of good oils, liquids in general, avocados, ginger and warming spices, grounding root vegetables (including onion and garlic), seasonal greens and fruits and add some good oils / dressings when eating raw salads.
  • Slow and steady yoga practice
    with longer warm up sequences for colder and dryer muscles. The goal to slowly increase our Pitta (fire dosha) without injury while maintaining a good level of Kapha (earth, grounding dosha). Keep your practice steady by finding a realistic routine you can stick to.
  • Prepare yourself to avoid seasonal colds
    Increase your zinc intake. I use the liquid form as then I know when I need to take it – if it tastes metallic to me, then I know I need it and when I cannot taste it anymore I know I am okay. You can also lubricate your nostrils with sesame oil and / or do nasal rinses to avoid dryness.
  • Start your day with meditation
    Even if it is just for 5 minutes. Sit in stillness in however position is comfortable for you. This will help you start your day feeling grounded and you will find focusing on tasks becomes easier.

Astral insights

The most important event this week is the full moon in Pisces during the early hours of September 14th. If full moons are culminations in themselves, a full moon on the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces, is the culmination of culminations. Pisces is ruled by Neptune and the theme in which this full moon will ‘illuminate’ or give clarity is to do with our dreams or illusions.

Last week, I talked about embodying and showing up with the sun in Virgo energy. This moon wants to show us what is real and what is an illusion. Are you showing up to make your dreams happen? Use the energy of the current stellium in Virgo to ground your dreams, or to ‘be real’ and come to terms with the fact that those dreams are just illusions and will never materialise. The answer is within you and how much you want to show up and ‘be’ your dreams. Use the days around the full moon to tune in and check for old conditionings which may be stopping you from embodying your dreams.

The Neptune / Pisces energy is a double edged sword and you want to stay in the right side of this – the dream big, no limits quality. Tune into the Virgo energy whenever you feel you are being pulled to the other side of Neptune – the side of delusions – so you can stay grounded.
Jupiter is still in Sagittarius, and everything Jupiter touches expands so… stay focused!

This week’s yoga and astral insights 02.09.2019

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Virgo season is here!
Autumn is starting to show – leaves are falling off trees, holidays are over, earlier nights… We start to organise ourselves and prepare for the transition to winter.

There are many astrological aspects this week but, following the Virgo spirit, I’m going to keep this organised and simple:

  • We just had a new Moon in Virgo, so the Moon is waxing now, gaining light and growing. Perfect timing to start new things, gain clarity and make the most of the energy increase.
  • We have a triple conjunction in Virgo: the Sun (conscience, presence), Mars (action) and Mercury (mind).
  • Virgo is the sign of the body.

This is the week to embody, be present, show up – experience life with your 5 senses. Get out of the mind – test-drive your dreams, learn by direct experience what works and what doesn’t; go out there and talk to people, minimise online interaction and put in the effort to show up.

This week’s yoga

The only way to break a pattern is through change – it seems so simple, doesn’t it?

Step #1 is to recognise said pattern… how are the eclipses treating you so far? Now is a good time to pay attention to your dreams and other synchronicities that may come your way ✨

On top of it being eclipse season, we have 5 planets on retrograde: Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and Neptune… Seeing where these planets are in your chart will give you some insights on how this may affect you.

Undeniably there are strong energies affecting us at the moment. It may feel uncomfortable and that is okay… Through our practice we learn to be okay through big changes, by releasing the old (patterns) perhaps physically first, making space and opening up to receive the new.

New moon in Capricorn
and total solar eclipse

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Today we have a total solar eclipse and a new moon in Capricorn in the south node at 20.16 London time. Solar eclipses always happen in new moons as the moon blocks the entire surface of the sun.

As the Sun rules Leo and Leo rules the solar plexus, this is a great time to work on heart openers, not just in our yoga practice, but in our life experiences. This will allow us to ‘feel’ or ‘sense’ in our plexus, manipura, our inner sun, in order to raise our vibration.
What makes your heart race out of excitement, connection and pure bliss tingling all over? Yes, that is what you should be doing today! I just happen to be going to see one of my favourite bands tonight which I know for sure will raise my vibration and open my heart. In fact, just thinking about it is doing the job already! You can listen to them here.
Whatever it is you are doing, take it easy, the energy’s lower in new moons and these eclipses are powerful.

Eclipse season started June 3rd and will end on July 31st. Pay attention to what is happening around you and the people you meet. People we meet in eclipse season are key people, they will bring valuable lessons and/ or key information for us, especially if we meet them close or on the day of the eclipse.

Mercury went retrograde yesterday – those dreaded words! This is actually a good thing during eclipse season as we get a chance to quiet the monkey mind when all external communications go haywire. Take this opportunity to connect with your intuition and get some insights from the solar plexus and heart instead of the mind. Your gut ‘knows’ stuff your mind cannot even start to comprehend.

Leo energy is on the rise: yesterday Mercury went into Leo and today Mars also goes into Leo after not visiting its own sign for two years… We may be feeling the change but the change is not here yet. We may feel we have outgrown something in our life and even though we cannot see a way forward, or if we can, we still don’t know how we will get there; we are wanting this change right now! Yes, once more we are being tested… how much do we need / want this change? Are we ready to take responsibility for ourselves and what is coming? We still have a little while to ‘feel’ this as Leo season is not till August. Make yourself comfortable in the discomfort. Tune inwards for the whole month of July. Mercury goes direct July 31st, which is also the end of this eclipse season. Take your time and wait for papa Lion energy roaring out in a month’s time, propelling us forwards after a good break for reflection.

This eclipse follows up last year’s eclipse around this time… what decisions / changes did you take / do around this time last year? Remember eclipses happen in the moon nodes and nodes are linked with our soul contracts. We find eclipses uncomfortable because they bring in huge changes, changes that will affect our future – eclipses drag us to our life purpose not looking at our 3D wants or needs. This may seem chaotic and impossible, but remember that what we can see and feel in 3D is about 1% of what is actually happen. The Universe’s got your back! Flow with the changes and allow your heart to grow.

This week’s yoga and astral insights 20.05.2019

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Butterflies are so amazing!
Such an interesting process of transformation: from the egg, to the caterpillar, then the chrysalis and wow… this amazingly beautiful insect, full of vivid colours… and it can fly?! Result! You’d think how lucky the caterpillar is with this transformation!
BUT do not forget the chrysalis. The darkness, resting, not knowing phase… going into that abyss without knowing what is going on or when it’ll be the end of it… that death which is just a metamorphosis. A transformation into something better. Why do we resist and fear it then? Why after so many experiences we still fear the unknown?

Fear of change of course causes friction and this is the biggest source of our suffering. What if someone told us that, whatever happens, those changes will always be for the better? What if we somehow knew that, however much we enjoy where we’re at this moment, what is coming next will make us much happier, as hard as it may seem at first?

Perhaps lets take this chance to look back into our lives and review what the outcomes were after big changes, changes that we resisted. Lets check and see what happened after, how they shaped us as people and the choices we made… were we happier? what would we have done different?

Wild Yoga is back!

From June 1st our Saturday morning yoga will be held outdoors at the park after last years’ success – we all felt that little bit happier after yoga with sun-kissed skin… I am considering whether we could do our Wednesday evening classes outdoors too and would love your feedback on this. Sunset yoga awaits!
Of course in the event of rainy weather there’ll be alternative arrangements so you have nothing to worry about!

Astral insights

We’ve had an intense full moon in Scorpio this Saturday – did you feel it? I sure did!
This week is a bit more chilled out, without any strong aspects so we can exhaaaaaaale and relax!
Saturn’s retrograde and this aspect may show our limitations and structures created by our thought patterns. Saturn’s also in the South Node, working through an old structure which perhaps was useful in the past but won’t be going forwards.
This is a great week to communicate our loved ones the changes we are going through and our process to avoid expectations which may not be met – we all have different rhythms and cannot expect all to happen in our own timing: communication is key.

FULL MOON IN SCORPIO
Deep waters of change

The moon just went through her first quarter phase into waxing gibbous and will keep swelling up as we advance through the week, culminating in a super powerful full moon in Scorpio on Saturday.

A little bit of lunar wisdom:

You might have heard this is also a blue moon. ‘Another blue moon? Didn’t it happen last month? How is this possible?’ I hear you say.
A blue moon is essentially an extra full moon in a year, when there are 13 instead of 12. Now, which one is the actual blue moon then? The original definition of the blue moon is the seasonal one and it traces back to the August 1937 issue of the Maine Farmer’s Almanac, where it explains that “the moon usually comes full 12 times in a year, three times for each season. Occasionally, however, there will come a year when there are 13 full moons during a year, not the usual 12. And that extra full moon also meant that one of the four seasons would contain four full moons instead of the usual three.” 

The almanac followed certain rules for what to call each moon. For example, the last full moon of winter had to fall during Lent; it was called the Lenten Moon. The first full moon of spring was called the Egg Moon — or Easter Moon, or Paschal Moon — and had to fall within the week before Easter. There was also the Moon Before Yule and the Moon After Yule. So when a particular season had four moons, the third was dubbed a Blue Moon, so that the other full moons could occur at the proper times relative to the solstices and equinoxes.

Somehow this definition got misinterpreted along the way circa 1946 and this adoption of the definition of a “blue moon” as the second full moon in a month followed its use on the popular radio program StarDate on January 31, 1980.

Astral insights

This week starts with a Grand Trine on the Earth element as the Sun is in taurus, Pluto retrogrades in Capricorn and the Moon is in Virgo. This may bring that power, focus and determination needed to finally make that change in an old pattern system which no longer serves us. As human beings we want to belong, but now is the time to find out who we really are. There’ll be hurdles and tests along the way.
The question to ask in these moments is: ‘Do I want authenticity or belonging?
Your soul knows the answer! This Trine will support us with the energy to go forward and get through these changes so we come through to the other side the most honest and true we’ve ever been. Remember that ‘there is no change without discomfort’. This is only temporary, but necessary for us to evolve.
The full moon in Scorpio towards the end of the week will be emotionally deep… It’s an all or nothing moon, yes or no, there is no space for half ways… This is a great time to deal with stopping addictions and fully supports the Grand Trine at the beginning of the week.

Astral insights

The new moon in Taurus last Saturday opened up a window in which we may be challenged to change old security structures which are no longer serving us. This could be in relationships (carrying it from the last two full moons in Libra), our relationship with money or our work. We are being challenged to ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’.
Yes, this old ways worked in the past, perhaps for years, and we feel comfortable acting a certain way as we ‘know the outcome’ – but is this the outcome we wish for or are we keeping ourselves trapped in these cycles?
One thing is very clear: f we don’t change the way we do things the results won’t change either. Start small, one step at a time. Give it a go! A little risk from your part can bring in growth and you may be surprised of the outcome 🙂

But I know that deep within, 
There really is much more.

Astral insights for the week

Most times the only thing stopping us from blooming is our own self-limiting conditionings / beliefs. ‘Lets slay them!’ I hear you say. Yes, sure! I also gotta tell you it’s easier said than done. Just because the some of those conditionings are sooo deeply engrained in us that it takes a hell of a lot of work and painful acceptance of things we don’t even wanna look at… But guess what, there is help at hand.
