This week’s yoga and astral insights

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Mars is still retrograding which may keep slowing things down, but hopefully we can use this slow time to lean back and aim true, staying out of feeing frustrated and keeping anger at bay.

Right now, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto are conjunct Capricorn (success standards, society rules and must do’s). This conjunction will finish towards the end of the year although it’s effects may be felt as far as February next year.

Here, we are looking at the ‘uncool’ side of Capricorn: masks are falling off at a collective level – we are fully conscious of how these external systems are no longer working. However, this mirrors our own personal systems and strategies and, if we look within ourselves, we may start to see how these systems are outdated and are no longer helping us. Taking this even further, we may discover that these old ways and coping mechanisms may just be creating the opposite effect of what we are used to and expect. The learning we take is that, in order to find different ways, we need to work with ourselves, go within and take responsibility for our lives.

This week’s most important aspect is the Harvest full moon in Aries (first sign of the Zodiac, rules ‘me, I want’), conjunct Chiron (wounded healer) with a Libra (ruling relationships) Sun. We will have two full moons this month, the brightests of the year, which is why this is the best month to ‘harvest’ whatever has come to fruition in our lives.

This full moon presents a huge mirror to see ourseves within our most important relationships. We are then able to see how a part of our relationship is a certain way because that same part in ourselves is that certain way. Taking responsibility for our part in this brings some huge learnings.

Mars squares Saturn as Saturn is stationary, just before it starts going direct. This aspects guides us to make a serious commited decision – we can either make an adjustment or decide to let go.

The moon will be full tomorrow and the energy can be felt the whole week, so if you decide to do the work the best evenings are tonight, tomorrow and the day after.
This evening, in our Moon Flow Yoga we will bring this intention through our Yoga Nidra practice, asking the full moon to clarify:

What would be good to solve within myself to help sort an important relationship out?

This class starts at 7pm via Zoom. You can book your space here. Or if you cannot make it you can purchase a link to a recording to be used for up to two days by contacting me here.

Full Moon Hanumanasana

This month our practice will focus around Hanumanasana, in honour of Hanuman’s (the monkey God) leap of faith:

“It was the greatest leap ever taken. The speed of Hanuman’s jump pulled blossoms and flowers into the air after him and they fell like little stars on the waving treetops. The animals on the beach had never seen such a thing; they cheered Hanuman, then the air burned from his passage, and red clouds flamed over the sky . . .” (Ramayana, retold by William Buck).

This pose then, in which the legs are split forward and back, mimics Hanuman’s famous leap from the southern tip of India to the island of Sri Lanka.

Some of Hanumanasana’s benefits are that it stretches thighs, hamstrings and groins and stimulates abdominal organs. It helps release pressure in the sciatic nerve if suffering from sciatica. This pose is contraindicated to those with groin or hamstring injuries.

Want to practice with us?

See you on the mat very soon!

Hello September!

Harvest MOON

September kicks off with the Harvest Full Moon tonight. With the Sun in Virgo and the Moon in Pisces, tonight’s full moon is about clarity and opening our eyes to see the full picture of a situation. As the moon sextiles Uranus, our ‘surprise!’ planet, this clarity will come in the form of unanounced ‘aha!’ moments which may seem to come out of nowhere – so tonight is a great time to meditate and calm our mind so our subconscious can rise and we can feel what is.

Tonight Slow Flow Yoga (Moon Flow) class will be themed around this Full Moon in Pisces and will end in a guided Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) to help you get to the right depths of relaxation, calm your nervous system and allow the magic to happen. This nourishing, mainly restorative practice will ground you and help release blockages so the Full Moon’s energy can do the work while you lay down ready to receive. You can book for tonight’s session here.

September new classes

Level 2 Improvers will be back Tuesday evenings at 7pm from September 15th. This class is for those who have a good yoga foundation and want to take a more challenging class.

Lunchtime Yoga is back Mondays and Wednesdays at 1pm starting from Wednesday September 16th. A half an hour pick me up to put your body and mind in a better place. This class is aimed to those of you who work seated at a desk and can invest some lunchtime in your wellness to glide through the second part of your day revitalised and calm.

A 5 week Complete Beginners Course will be starting on September 30th at 5.30pm, then every Wednesday at the same time until October 28th. This course will be covering the basics in yoga in a friendly, down to earth environment. By the time you complete this course you should feel confident to move onto the Level 1 or Open Level classes with a clear understanding of the basic foundations in Yoga.
It is sometimes great to revisit these foundations even if you have been practising for a while, so if you feel like doing so you are welcome to join us!

Wild Yoga classes will continue until the weather doesn’t allow. Then the Saturday Wild Yoga class will become a regular Live Stream Open Level class. This will probably happen in October and therefore Wild Yoga class packs are no loger available to purchase from now on.

Best of both: New ‘hybrid’ class packs

The Glass House is now open for one to one sessions!
These can be booked individually or in packs of 5 (email me to arrange time and day and then you can purchase and book through the system). One to one tune ups are tailored specifically to your needs. These sessions can also be arranged online via Zoom if preferred.

The Hybrid Class Pack:
Online learning is great but, from time to time it is good to have a little one to one tune up in person. With this hybrid pack you get the best of both worlds: 5 online classes and a half price one to one session at the Glass House (or via Zoom if preferred).

Online Unlimited Yoga Subscription:
This monthly subscription is for those who want to make the most of the classes. If you do more than one class a week, this subscription is for you!

The One to One Class Pack:
This is a 5 x one to one pack with a heftly discount, so your personal tune ups come at just £35 each.

You can book all classes here.

I look forward to seeing you on the mat very soon!

This week’s yoga – about gratitude 🙏🏽

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Transitions are always difficult as they require an adjustment period – trying and testing new methods and ways of doing things, seeing what works and doesn’t work and keeping it up without feeling disheartened. Tough!
It does come in waves though… Sometimes it takes a complete breakdown of an old system for a new one to be born.

This is why I want to thank all of you who have been loyal to Stay Gold Yoga through these hard times and those who are being flexible through the adjustment period. Thanks to you I can try and test new ways to keep Stay Gold Yoga alive. Thanks to you I can keep teaching and sharing that which I am passionate about. Thanks to you I have pulled through the lows and reached the highs. Thank you for coming with me through this journey from our WPCA classes to the Glass House, from online yoga to Wild Yoga and to a mix of all and beyond! My heart swells with gratitude 💖

Yoga helps you ground through ungrounding times. Yoga helps you to be flexible, not just in your body, but also in your mind. Yoga will keep you focused in times when focus is hard to find. It is not about where or how we practice yoga – it’ll be easier in the quiet, so the challenge of noise is a gift to be embraced for a stronger, fuller practice. It is what happens inside, behind the scenes of this 3D body, which matters; and it radiates through to the outside, to our tangible realm. It is food for the soul.

So our weekly schedule may go through small changes as I aim to teach as many outdoor classes (Wild Yoga) as possible through the summer to make the most of this glorious weather. As the Saturday Wild Yoga was so successful – sorry to those who couldn’t make it due to the number restrictions – I will add a second Saturday Wild Yoga session at 11am if the 10am class gets full. These classes are restricted to 5 students for now so this is my offering to you so you all can benefit from our Wild Yoga at the park!

This week’s yoga

Monday:
7pm – Level 1 Yoga (online)

Tuesday:
1pm – Lunchtime Yoga (online)
7pm – Wild Yoga

Wednesday:
10am – Slow Flow Yoga (online)

Saturday:
10am – Wild Yoga
11am – Wild Yoga (tbc)

You can book for class here.

I hope to see you on the mat soon!

Safety-distanced Wild Yoga is back!

Dear yogis and yoginis,

I am over the moon to announce that I will be holding our first Wild Yoga session of the summer on Saturday June 13th @Whittington Park, 10am. I am hoping to continue throughout the summer as we have done for the last two years!

These are some simple rules to follow in order for these sessions to be safe and successful:

  • Bring your own mat / props and hand sanitiser to the park with you
  • Respect the safety distance of 2m from other students and myself
  • All adjustments and instructions will be verbal
  • If you are feeling unwell with cold / flu- like symptoms, please do not attend this class and choose from the many other online classes here
  • These sessions are capped at 5 students so book early here to avoid disapointment!
  • And last, but not least: enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while you practice yoga – bliss!

And for a post-yoga beverage / snack… rumour has it that our beloved Whittington Park Cafe is now open!

Looking forward to seeing you – on the flesh and on the mat!

Full moon in Scorpio meditation and ritual

As the full moon reaches its peak tomorrow 10:45, I am writing this so you have enough time to prepare for your own full moon ritual. It will be very simple, with objects you have in your home. Rituals work best when you make them your own, so I will give you some ideas and guidelines and then all it takes is your creativity and commitment to follow through so your intention materialises.

Intention.
This is the most important thing in rituals. Make sure your intention is clear. Scorpio is the deepest, most emotional sign (feminine, fixed, water) and this full moon wants to illuminate those conditionings, fears, patterns which are buried deep into the psyche so they can be transformed. So I encourage you to sit in meditation before your ritual, to connect with the full moon. My own personal recommendation time-wise is to sit in meditation for a half hour.

Gather together:

– A candle, any candle or tea light, white is best – this represents fire. Preferably a match to light it

– Bring on your crystals, if you have any. Otherwise anything which represents earth for you can be used instead: a stone, sand, soil, branches

– Incense, sage, palo santo… to cleanse – these represent air

– And finally water in any form: a simple bowl of water will do

– On top of these bring an image / figure / your own drawing of a deity (any deity) you want present in your ritual. I chose Ganesh, destroyer of obstacles and he is holding up Fortuna, the Roman goddess representing luck and the ups and downs of life. The possibilities are endless here, so choose someone or something you truly connect with

– Any trinkets you want to bring in which will bring meaning and power to the ritual. I have Ganesh holding a red and blue feather, for example, this feather represents the freedom and lightness of flight; its colours water and fire; and she is being grounded by Ganesh and her round belly. So the four elements are also represented here

– Last you will need a piece of paper and a pencil or pen and a fire resistant bowl or plate

Find a space where you can be relaxed and won’t be interrupted. Outdoors is best, or anywhere where you can get a glimpse of the full moon. If you need to sit on a cushion or chair to be comfortable in meditation, make sure you bring it into the space.
Light the candle with the match stick and place it in the middle of this space.

Cast a circle of protection around the space you will be working in. There is many ways to do this. A very effective way is to light your incense / palo santo / smudge stick in the candle and walk around the space holding it, cleansing the space and casting a veil of protection around it. Use your own words here as you walk around the circle. You can just say: ‘I am safe inside this circle, I am protected’.

Now sit in front of the candle and gaze at it. Take the piece of paper and start burning its edges on the candle. Be careful as you do this and keep your mind focused. Make sure the whole edge of the paper is burned, this will seal its contents.

Next start preparing you altar for the ritual. Place the rest of the elements around the candle and the paper and pencil / pen close to you. Have a drink of water from the bowl so you start connecting with this element and sit comfortably. If you have a timer you can set to bring you out of the meditation, set it now – I recommend ‘Insight timer’ which is a free app with a very simple yet effective timer. Otherwise you may choose to bring yourself back whenever it feels like the right time. Ground your sit bones as you start your meditation and connect with the moon, visualise her beautiful pale white halo bathing you and ask her for insights: ‘what needs to be transformed?’ ‘what has reached its sell-by-date and needs to go?’ Be open and receptive, allow these insights to come to you.

Once your meditation is finished, download those insights into the fire sealed paper. Try not to think about it and just pour them onto the paper. This paper is sealed with the element of fire, standing for transformation, destruction and creation, purification. Once you finish, hold the paper in front of you, and visualise whatever your wrote in your paper, literally leaving your body and being absorbed by your paper. Now it is all sealed in the paper. Fold or loosely scrunch the paper and burn a corner with the candle flame. Be safe as you do so and quickly place it into the fire resistant bowl. Watch it burn and be conscious of how you feel as you do so. Do you feel lighter? More energised? More positive? If you write a journal, write these feelings down. What is your next step? How will this transformation manifest?
Write down what comes to you from the heart, to earth it. Make a commitment. Every day do something small which brings you closer to that change. The full moon will be back and then you can peel yet another layer, but, for now, well done and keep up the good work of being present and attuned to the moon cycles!
