This week’s yoga and astral insights

New moon in Libra & Mercury retrograde

This week starts with some beautiful, expanding alignments in the sky (such as Jupiter squaring the Sun), bringing in a feel-good vibe to the usually dreaded Monday.

Tuesday evening Mercury goes into stationary mode, just before going retrograde until November 3rd. This whole retrograde period, Mercury will go from Scorpio to Libra and back to Scorpio. This is a great time to go inwards (deep —> Scorpio) , looking at our communication patterns and outdated beliefs tin our relationships (Libra) , doing a deep-clean and changing those which are damaging our relations. This energy is even stronger right now as, at the beginning of its retrogradation, Mercury is stationary for a few days.

Continuing with the theme of relationships, Mars retrograde in Aries squares the Sun in Libra (Mars=Yang vs. Sun=Yang). The Sun in Libra wants harmony, balance and justice (at a collective level) while Mars retrograde in Aries is stepping back, looking for a change in conduct in regards to present events. There has to be a compromise to this change. This could be you squaring up to those old behaviours and patterns and realising how much damage these could do to a current important and cherished relationship. This may come with the realisation that you treat others the same way you treat yourself.
As not all of us are at the same level of awareness right now, some may struggle and will be fighting with themselves and within their relationships. Only by taking conscience and being aware of our own patterns of behaviour we will be able to exit some unhealthy cycles in relationships.

On Friday we have a new moon in Libra, which, amongst so many aspects in tension, may feel a little like a push, a forced new beginning – whether we learn our lessons or not. The blackmooning period – from now till the new moon – together with Mercury stationary, is a perfect time to stop and go within, journal, search for meaning, nourish your mind and soul and dive deep into the darkness to find your inner light.
Your soul knows where the answers lay, so just sit back and relax.

Tonight’s Moon Flow Yoga will prepare you for this blackmooning period, allowing you to lay back and open to that unknown scent of darkness, awakening your inner senses to reveal that which your sould deeply knows. This week’s yoga and astral insights 05.10.20

The only way out is through

The protagonist of this week is definitely Uranus. This is the planet of sudden awakenings, shaking us out of our security and routines and not in a gentle manner. Uranus helps us to elevate our conscience so if we are able to see these unexpected ‘surprises’ for what they are and stay calm(ish) through the storm we will make it through the other side, richer and wiser.

Today, Mars (who is retrograde in Aries) trines the south node and sextiles the north node – the karmic nodes – for the second time this year. The first time this happened was August 22nd, so see if you can go back in time and recall what was happening then in regards with new opportunities coming your way in the form of connections with certain individuals, conversations or meetings… perhaps you were not happy with the results back then and, if that is the case, this is your chance of stepping back (Mars retrograde), correct what needs to be changed and do it in a different way.

Tomorrow Wednesday we have Mercury in Scorpio (this is Mercury in detective mode, deep research) opposing Uranus retrograde in Taurus. This aspect is to do with deep research, tests, deep analysis; these could be physical, psychological or of any kind. By researching and looking deeper you might find something you have not seen before and this finding will change your narrative. Being Uranus it will be surprising news, so it is important to take some distance and not react (Mars retrograde). Looking at things from a different perspective by detaching yourself from a situation, will help you understand the bigger picture. This is an excellent aspect to break an attachment or an addiction, of course we all know this won’t happen in a day, but it is a great moment to make that decision and step into it. This aspect will happen again on October 19th as Mercury will be retrograding and you should be able to understand things much better then.

And Friday, we have Mars retrograde in Aries squaring (for the second time) Pluto, now direct, in Capricorn. Again, going back to the first time this square took place, around August 11-17, and looking at what was happening around that time, something which moved you in an emotional and psychological way, deeply. This might have brought out your dark side or shadow (Pluto -> things happening under the surface, the unseen). This second time around there is a chance to understand this a little bit better, a second chance to react differently and make some changes to obtain a different result.

There is a lot of opportunity this week to take perspective and change things. Being able to learn from our mistakes will bring big rewards as we can change things by changing our reactions.

Mars

Dear yogis and yoginis,

Mars is the warrior planet, full of yang (male) energy – the kind of energy which attacks when feeling under threat and that sparks anything into action. When this kind of energy gets stuck we are prone to anger outbursts, physical accidents and, in worst case scenario, violence. This is exactly the kind of energy going last week as Mars started going retrograde last Wednesday. When a planet starts going retrograde it is stationary for a few days first – so the energy that planet holds, in this case Mars, becomes stagnant.

I have experienced this energy full on as I injured my back sawing wood to make a fire (Mars in its element) last Monday evening. My power was stronger than my body could hold at that time, which lead with very unhappy back muscles and a trip to hospital as my back went into spasm. So, yup, I experienced stationary Mars in my bones (or may I say muscles) and I am, thankfully, slowly on the mend.

The advice with this kind of energy is to not overexert yourself (easier said than done), try not to snap but breathe and calm down before you react to whatever may be triggering you (and there may be lots of triggers as Mars rules Aries which is the ‘I am’ sign of the zodiac) and, very important, do not make any key decisions until Mars goes direct in November as you may well regret them.

Hello September!

Harvest MOON

September kicks off with the Harvest Full Moon tonight. With the Sun in Virgo and the Moon in Pisces, tonight’s full moon is about clarity and opening our eyes to see the full picture of a situation. As the moon sextiles Uranus, our ‘surprise!’ planet, this clarity will come in the form of unanounced ‘aha!’ moments which may seem to come out of nowhere – so tonight is a great time to meditate and calm our mind so our subconscious can rise and we can feel what is.

Tonight Slow Flow Yoga (Moon Flow) class will be themed around this Full Moon in Pisces and will end in a guided Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) to help you get to the right depths of relaxation, calm your nervous system and allow the magic to happen. This nourishing, mainly restorative practice will ground you and help release blockages so the Full Moon’s energy can do the work while you lay down ready to receive. September new classes

Level 2 Improvers will be back Tuesday evenings at 7pm from September 15th. This class is for those who have a good yoga foundation and want to take a more challenging class.

Lunchtime Yoga is back Mondays and Wednesdays at 1pm starting from Wednesday September 16th. A half an hour pick me up to put your body and mind in a better place. This class is aimed to those of you who work seated at a desk and can invest some lunchtime in your wellness to glide through the second part of your day revitalised and calm.

A 5 week Complete Beginners Course will be starting on September 30th at 5.30pm, then every Wednesday at the same time until October 28th. This course will be covering the basics in yoga in a friendly, down to earth environment. By the time you complete this course you should feel confident to move onto the Level 1 or Open Level classes with a clear understanding of the basic foundations in Yoga.
It is sometimes great to revisit these foundations even if you have been practising for a while, so if you feel like doing so you are welcome to join us!

Wild Yoga classes will continue until the weather doesn’t allow. Then the Saturday Wild Yoga class will become a regular Live Stream Open Level class. This will probably happen in October and therefore Wild Yoga class packs are no loger available to purchase from now on.

These can be booked individually or in packs of 5 (email me to arrange time and day and then you can purchase and book through the system). One to one tune ups are tailored specifically to your needs. These sessions can also be arranged online via Zoom if preferred.

Online learning is great but, from time to time it is good to have a little one to one tune up in person. With this hybrid pack you get the best of both worlds: 5 online classes and a half price one to one session at the Glass House (or via Zoom if preferred).

We are reopening for one to one in person yoga sessions from September!
I call these sessions ‘tune-ups’, especially now that there is so much online learning, where it is harder to make corrections and connections 😉 
During these sessions we work on you and you only, which means that we tailor the time to your wants and needs so you come out 200% happy 😊
The Glass House opens into a garden so there is plenty of ventilation and fresh air. Plus in it’s state of blooming it’s like practicing Wild Yoga indoors, in a protected and calm environment.
